no progress on the MonkeeCustom

I’m on vacation all week and was hoping to get a bunch of work done on the buick. I haven’t done a damn thing. It has been way too hot outside and a good 10 to 20 degrees hotter in the garage. No motivation. At this rate I know I wont have it running for the Pileup in October.

The MonkeeCustom (used to be MonkeeRat) progress

Over the last few days I have been posting and talking on the Chrome Czars . This is a great Chicago area club. The guys there “Hellfish” and others really helped define what most people think of a “Rat” rod and with that I have decided rename the MonkeeRat to the MonkeeCustom. I hope to start some work on the ol ’54 today.

Knuckle busting sunday

Spent about 5 hours in the garage today. I was able to get the front seat (well more like springs frame and rotted out cushion), top of dash, hood, passenger side front fender, and inner wheel well removed. All bolts but one removed from the drivers side (I need to go buy a new set of deep sockets).
I want to get a clear shot / access to the engine to start working on it. Moved all the body parts down to my basement and will start sanding them down. Started sanding one of the fenders by hand. Yea that’s not going to happen…. I can’t imagine sanding down this whole beast by hand. So, how do I do it? Power grinder with a sanding wheel? I just want to get rid of the rust and about 5 layers (from what I can see) of paint.
On the way home from work tomorrow I’ll pick up some deep sockets and get that fender and wheel well pulled off. Now time for another beer and season four of Dr. Who.

Oh and I REALLY NEED to put a stereo out there to listen as I work…
